Italy could become the next European country to hold a referendum on the building of Islamic minarets.
It follows a Swiss decision to ban the towers, which are used to put out the Muslim call to prayer, earlier this week.
Roberto Calderoli, of Italy's Right-wing Northern League party, said the country should hold a vote as soon as possible to reaffirm its Roman Catholic roots.
Like the Swiss, Italian voters can have a direct say on an issue if a minimum number of signatures are gathered, calling for a referendum.
Mr Calderoli said the Swiss decision should warn countries about losing touch with their Christian identities.
'Respect for other religions is important, but we've got to put the brakes on Muslim propaganda or else we'll end up with an Islamic political party like in Spain,' he said.
The League - which has previously been accused of Islamophobia - is expected to start the campaign for a vote.
Italy has 1.2million Muslims, making it the country's second religion to Catholicism.
In Britain, there are around 300 minarets, according to a moderate Muslim think-tank.
What moderate Muslims? A moderate Muslim think tank? Don't think so.
The Quilliam Foundation said it estimated a fifth of the UK's 1,500 mosques were likely to
have the towers, although no official figures exist.
The Swiss are considering a New referendum to deport all criminal immigrants back to their country of origin. One of the arguments you will hear, read about is that what might happen to these criminals if they are deported back to their home country? Actually, who cares. If these immigrants come into Switzerland or any other country, and are callous, violent enough to commit crimes in their new country, then they do not deserve the privilege of being able to stay in the new country. No more asylum or multiple chances to stay in the host country.
How do you think an infidel who commits a crime in a Muslim or Islamic country would be treated if he or she comitted crimes in the Islamic or Muslim country? It would not be fair or pretty.

New Swiss Referendum to Deport all Criminal Immigrants
The Swiss people recently ratified a referendum that forbids the construction of Muslim mosques with minarets attached, and now Swiss People’s Party proposed the organizing of a new referendum that will deport from Switzerland all immigrants who committed a crime.
This new referendum could enter in a conflict with the 1951 Geneva Convention about immigrants status. The convention says that no immigrant should be deported if he faces inhuman treatment, racial, political or religious discrimination in his own country of origin.
However the Geneva Convention was clearly made to protect fellow Europeans from Communist tyranny but today the convention is highly outdated as no one really faces such discriminations anywhere on the planet. The convention has also been misinterpreted many times and used for wrong purposes. Today it serves as a gateway for Muslims and other Third World criminals to enter freely into Switzerland.
The legal situation in Switzerland seems set to change following the vigorous campaign for a referendum on deportation of foreign criminals launched by the anti-immigration SVP, which is a key element in the ruling coalition. It was in the run-up to the 2007 general election that the SVP launched its campaign to raise the 100,000 signatures necessary to force a referendum in order to introduce into the penal code measures that would allow for the deportation of the entire family of a convicted criminal under the age of eighteen. There was consternation in parliament, as critics pointed out that if the law was passed, it would be the first such law in Europe since the Nazi practice of Sippenhaft.

By February 2009, the SVP had already collected 210,000 signatures, more than double compared to what the law requires, and in response to the pressure from the SVP a new Aliens Bill was introduced into parliament that aims to establish precise criteria as to when a residence permit could be withdrawn from a foreign offender. Under the proposed legislation, foreigners sentenced to two years imprisonment or more, or having accumulated the equivalent prison sentences over a period of ten years, would have their residence permit rescinded and therefore be liable for deportation and they will also be banned from entering Switzerland from 5 to 15 years. In less serious cases, the draft Bill allows the authorities to judge for themselves whether to withdraw the residence permit of the person concerned.
This referendum is only a soft version of the original project that was supposed to deport all immigrants who asked for asylum in Switzerland.
The State Council, (superior chamber of the Swiss parliament), decided on December 10, 2009 to resend the proposal of SVP to the special commissions who will have to decide at the beginning of 2010 if the new referendum is compatible with the Geneva Convention and with the Swiss Constitution.

TRIPOLI — Libyan leader Moamer Kadhafi said the Swiss referendum banning the building of new minarets was an invitation for Al-Qaeda to launch attacks in Europe, the official news agency JANA reported on Sunday.
"They pretend they are 'fighting Al-Qaeda and terrorism' whereas in fact they have just rendered it the greatest service," he said, referring to Switzerland with disdain as "the mafia of the world."
On November 29, more than 57 percent of Swiss voters approved a rightwing motion to ban minarets on mosques, a decision that has sparked an international backlash and charges of intolerance.
"Al-Qaeda militants are now saying: 'We warned you that they were our enemies... Look at what they are doing in Europe. Come and join us for a jihad (holy war) against Europe,'" Kadhafi said.
Islam is at war with the entire world. It will not stop or cease until there is a global caliphate and islam IS the one and only ideology. Global perversion.
The Libyan leader, speaking at an academic ceremony on Saturday in Zliten, 160 kilometres (100 miles) east of Tripoli, said Muslim countries now had an argument not to allow the building of new churches.
"I don't think anyone in the Muslim world will from now on authorise the construction of a church," Kadhafi said.
Most Islamic countries will not allow churchs or other huses of worship to be built or even rebuilt if one exists, and is destroyed. We know that never happens.
He warned Switzerland of an economic fallout of a rift with the Muslim world. "You must think of your interests. You need gas, ports, the sea, solar energy, investments," Kadhafi said.
The Swiss do not Islam forced upon them. Neither does any other country!
Tripoli's own relations with Bern have been strained by the brief detention in July 2008 in Geneva of Kadhafi's son Hannibal and daughter-in-law after two servants had complained of mistreatment.
Two Swiss businessmen have since been held in the North African.
There is an important vote taking place today in Switzerland. They are voting on whether to ban the one of Islam's symbols of oppression, the minaret. Here is to hoping this passes by a large majority. The next step would be to ban Islam altogether. It is common when Muslims build mosques and minarets, they are to tower over any and all nearby buildings or other houses of worship.

Today the decision to ban the construction of minarets is before the Swiss people. Of course there are massive guilt ridden well funded campaigns claiming that to ban the minaret is racist.
Lets be clear and rational here please just for a moment then we can all go back to being creatures driven by hyperbole and rhetoric.
A building is not a race. Banning a building and in this case only part of a building cannot possibly be considered racist. Now if you decided to ban say, bricks as a building material for no reason at all except you had a pathological hatred of bricks you could be accused of being ‘brickest’ I suppose and you may have some unions come down hard on you. But a minaret is not a building, a building is not a race and of course the central point that everyone misses each and every time this comes up is, Islam is not a race.
Now I don’t actually think banning minarets is the right solution. I think banning Islam is. There is no reason to allow Islam to continue its steady march towards supremacy in western nations unopposed that I can see. Mosques indeed are not an equivalent of a temple, church, or synagogue. They are indeed a beach-head from which supremacy is taught and greater and greater separation of Muslims from the host population until you have two solitudes and eventually the most intolerant system, Islam with it’s sharia law, will win. Just ask a Kosovar or an Egyptian Copt.
So recognizing that banning the minaret is merely a totem for what ultimately will have to be done if Swiss and indeed Western civilization has any intention of continuing its fine heritage of freedoms (leftist continual introduction of irrational crypto-environmental regulations and behavioural restrictions not withstanding) then at least making sure that Swiss mosques are not able to dominate the landscape, the actual purpose of the minaret, is a fine start. So please dear people of Switzerland; you utterly failed to assist the people of Europe from saving themselves from the Nazis, and in fact, acted out of self interest to work with them by managing stolen wealth. Let’s see if you have at least a healthy amount of that self-preservation instinct left in you. This time, you can lead Europe to self determination and save civilization.
Vote to ban the minaret. Then later, you can ban Islam altogether.
