In Iranian hands, it would make the targeting of its nuclear facilities very difficult. Able to wipe out an aircraft carrier up to 400 kilometers away, the system's manufacturer, Novator, is directing its marketing tactics at anyone under threat of military action from the United States. One expert accused the Russians of proliferating ballistic missiles on an unheard-of scale.
At the Malaysian exhibition, the marketing film showed the Club-K being activated from an ordinary truck. (See picture.) The truck pulls up, whereupon the container roof lifts up to reveal four 3?-54?E, 3?-54?E1 and 3?-14?E cruise missiles ready to fire. The operator then pushes a button and the missiles, which have a range of 350 km, are launched without further preparation.
debkafile's military sources warn that the sale of Club-K cruise missile systems to Iran or Syria and their transfer to Hizballah would give them an edge substantial enough to be a game-changer into the Middle East balance of strength. They are capable of surreptitiously approaching Israeli, Iraqi and any other coastlines in the region, and send missiles flying against an American, Arab or Israeli strategic or military target before their targets know they are under attack.
The missile specialist Novator, which maintains a manufacturing plant in Yekaterinburg in the Ural Mountains, produces an array of missiles against air, sea and land targets, including cruise missiles launched from submarines, as well as the advanced S-300 missile interceptor, which Russia contracted to sell Iran but has so far not delivered.

12 killed in new suicide blasts in Russia, days after metro attacks.
DNAIndia, Two suicide bombers, including one in police uniform, today launched a coordinated attack killing at least 12 people in Russia's volatile North Caucasus region of Dagestan, just two days after the terror attacks on Moscow metro, which were blamed on rebels from the region.
Vladimir Putin says one group may be behind Russian bombs
Hours after the blasts that also injured 27 others, prime minister Vladimir Putin said the same gang which carried out the Monday's attacks could be behind today's bombings.
"This is a crime against Russia," said Putin, who had yesterday vowed to 'drag the terrorists out of sewers'.
"One more crime has been committed in Daghestan, one more terrorist attack. I do not rule out that one and the same gang was involved," he said in televised remarks at the meeting of his inner cabinet.
Among the dead in today's attacks in the town of Kizlyar in Dagestan bordering the restive Chechnya was the local police chief Vitaly Vedernikov, Investigation Committee said in a statement.
According to the interior ministry, the first blast took place at 8.45 am (10:15 IST), when traffic policemen stopped a Niva jeep for document check near a police station and FSB security agency's office.
The driver of the jeep blew himself up, killing two policemen.
Another blast took place 20 minutes later when the local police chief along with investigators was probing the first explosion.
The second suicide bomber wearing uniform of a police lieutenant blew himself in the crowd of onlookers, killing 10 people, including police chief Vedernikov.
A total of nine policemen were among 12 people killed in the two blasts and authorities have launched investigations into the latest attacks.
According to the Daghestani Investigation Committee, the force of the first blast of explosive laden Niva jeep in Kizlyar was equivalent to 200 Kg TNT creating a 5 meter wide and two meter deep crater.

Death toll in explosion at Moscow's central Lubyanka metro station rises to 25--TASS, quoting Emergency Ministry spokeswoman Irina Andrianova.
The huge blast occurred at 7:50 AM on Monday, during rush hour, when thousands of passengers were packed onto trains.
Andrianova says the dead include 14 people who were in the train's second car where the blast occurred and 11 people who were waiting on the platform of the station.
A second explosion happened at the Park Kultury station, about 40 minutes later, Russian news agency Tass reported.
Suicide Bombings Suspected
Interfax says the blasts may have been caused by suicide bombers.
The headquarters of Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB), the successor to the Soviet-era KGB, is located just above the Lubyanka station.
Today's explosions follow the Islamist bombing of the Nevsky Express passenger train last November, which killed 27 people and injured 90.
As China Confidential reported in December, the bombing of the Nevsky, a Moscow-Saint Petersburg luxury train that is popular with businesspeople and tourists, raised fears of a resurgence of Islamist terrorist attacks in Moscow and other major cities.
Russia was hit hard by Islamist terrorism in the 1990s and the early years of this decade, but the violence has largely been confined to the predominantly Muslim North Caucasus region since 2004.
Sixty people were injured in an attack on the Nevsky Express in August 2007. Fifteen people were injured in the 2005 bombing of a train headed to Moscow from Chechnya, and a suicide attack in the Moscow metro killed 41 and injured approximately 120 in 2004.

The causes of the blasts were not immediately clear, but the government said it suspected suicide bombers, Russian news agencies reported.
The subway system, one of the world’s most extensive, had been subjected to attacks related to the separatist war in Chechnya in the early part of the last decade.
Officials said the first explosion Monday occurred at 7:50 a.m. in the Lubyanka subway station, killing people both on the platform and aboard an incoming train. Numerous others were injured.
“The blast hit the second carriage of a metro train that stopped at Lubyanka,” Irina Andrianova, a spokeswoman for the emergency ministry, told Reuters.
About 40 minutes later, another explosion occurred in the second car of a train at the Park Kultury station, officials said. The number of casualties was not immediately known.
In September 2004, a suicide bomber killed at least 9 other people and wounded more than 50 outside the Rizhskaya subway. In February of that same year, a woman carrying a bomb destroyed another subway car, killing at least 41 people as the train moved between the Paveletskaya and the Avtozavodskaya stations at one of the busiest times of the day.
The Lubyanka station, where the first explosion occurred, takes its name from the infamous Lubyanka prison that also served as the former headquarters of the K.G.B., the Soviet-era secret police.

Whether Obama accepts our position in the world or not does really not matter. The questions posed in this article are core to the survival and continued postion of the United States as the #1 nuclear power in the world. As Obama pursues scaling back, the downgrading of our ability to attack and defend our enemies and allies is approaching critical mass. Russia and China are accelearting their efforts as we go in the opposite direction. The White House is not "overly concerned." Well, I am very concerned and you should be to.

A funny thing happened in the skies over Norway last month. On Dec. 10, as U.S. President Barack Obama geared up to deliver his acceptance speech before the Nobel Prize Committee in Oslo, spectators outdoors were treated to a spectacular display of spiraling light. The cause was not a UFO, as some contended, but a failed test of the Bulava, Russia's newest sea-launched intercontinental ballistic missile.
The episode was a telling reminder of the shifting strategic balance between Washington and the rest of the world. To understand the significance, one need look no further than Russia's military modernization program. That initiative, launched in the early days of Vladimir Putin's presidency, has charted major gains over the past decade under the watchful eye of Putin (now prime minister) and his handpicked protégé, President Dmitry Medvedev.
And while the effort is certainly not perfect, as the latest failure of the Bulava underscores, Russia can now boast upgrades to every leg of its strategic triad (submarines, bombers and ballistic missiles). In addition, Russia has made progress on advanced technologies related to missile countermeasures, hypersonic glide vehicles and electro-magnetic pulse - all systems designed to defeat U.S. defenses.
Nor is Russia alone. Over the past two decades, China has embarked upon a massive, multispectrum military modernization. The most immediate goal is to increase China's ability to dominate Taiwan in the event of a conflict, but the threat posed by this effort extends far beyond the Asia-Pacific.

The second bomb which exploded Saturday, Nov. 28, at the site of the Nevsky Express which was derailed Friday between Moscow and St. Petersburg crash site injured no one. It was less powerful than the first, which left 39 dead and 90 injured Friday near the town of Bologove. The Russian authorities confirmed a bomb of app. 7 kilos of TNT threw the train off the tracks when it was travelling at 200 mph. The 661-seat luxury Nevsky Express is used by high officials, tycoons and tourists to commute between Moscow and St. Petersburg. Russian authorities say a list of victims will be released as soon as they are identified. North Caucasian Islamist terrorists are suspected of responsibility.

Our counter-terror sources report that attacks by North Caucasian terrorist groups linked to al Qaeda are on the rise in Russia inside and outside their home ground - and not only in Chechnya but also in Dagestan, Ingushetia and Kabardino-Balkaria. This Friday too, the commander of the Dagestan interior ministry's anti-terror task force SOBR was shot dead and a large bomb exploded near the southern train tracks to Makhachkala. A second bomb was discovered near a central pipeline. In Kabardino-Balkaria, police arresting suspects in a car came under gunfire.
President Dmitry Medvedev has declared a day of national mourning.
In Washington, White House spokesman Robert Gibbs said, "We are deeply saddened by the terrible loss of life and injuries resulting from the reported derailment of a train between Moscow and Saint Petersburg."

I do not agree with handing the Russians quite possibly, four aces. Alot can change in six years until this program is in place. There is NO reason to trust the Russians. Even severe sanctions against Iran will not deter the Mullahs from becoming a nuclear armed state and attacking Israel, and other targets.
