Islamic Slavery (Never Forget!)

It is a little-known historical fact that for the best part of three hundred years, corsairs sailing from ports on the Barbary Coast preyed upon civilians living along the Mediterranean coastline, attacked cargo boats from non-Islamic nations, carrying their crews off into slavery, and as we shall see, carried out devastating attacks on towns as far away as Baltimore in Ireland and Grindavik, Lón and Djúpivogur in Iceland. 

One of the earliest records of English sailors being captured by privateers from the Barbary Coast can be found in the calendar of state papers for 1567, which records that on 13th July of that year, Bishop Edmund Grindall, then the Bishop of London, wrote to William Cecil, the chief advisor to Queen Elizabeth I, asking him to “further the suit of the bearer for a licence to make a collection for ransom of certain Englishmen, captives in Algiers.” 

According to the National Maritime Museum in Cornwall, ships from the Barbary Coast were seen off the south-west coast of England as early as 1623. The privateers soon began to attack seagoing vessels anywhere they found them. The crews of these English boats were abducted and taken back to North Africa, where they were enslaved. 

On 18th April 1625, Sir James Bagg, the Vice-Admiral of South Cornwall, wrote to George Villiers, the Duke of Buckingham, to inform him that three Cornish fishing boats and another ship bound for Newfoundland had been attacked by North African privateers. In August 1625, the slavers had even come ashore at Mount's Bay in Cornwall. The people in the village had run to their local church and shut themselves inside. This was all to no avail, for the corsairs cared nothing for the sanctity of a church. They entered the building without a qualm and dragged some sixty people outside, then forced them aboard their rowing boats. These unfortunate Cornish men and woman were taken aboard the waiting ships, whereupon they were transported back to the Barbary Coast, where the slave markets awaited. That same month, the Mayor of Plymouth wrote to the Privy Council and told them that in just ten days, twenty seven ships had been taken by the privateers, and the crews who were aboard had all been enslaved. 

​As the years passed, the raids continued. In 1634, two ships sailing from Somerset to Ireland were attacked and had their crews taken. In September 1635, six privateers acting together as a “wolf-pack” attacked a ship sailing west of Cornwall. In May 1636, three fishing boats were attacked by the corsairs, and twenty-seven fishermen were taken away as slaves. In June 1636, fishermen who had been sailing between England and Ireland reported that “five of their company were taken by the Turk, and their men, being six or seven in each boat, were carried away.” Seven more boats were attacked by the privateers while fishing between St. Keverne and the Lizard that same month. According to Richard Plummer, the skipper of a barge that was berthed at St. Keverne, “There was no news heard of either men or boats, so that it goes for an absolute truth thereabouts, that they were all surprised by the Turks and carried away.” The situation on the south-west coast of England was so bad that the Justices of The Peace for Cornwall wrote to King Charles I on 14th July 1636: 

Beg his Majesty to receive advertisement of complaints lately received from the sea coast of Cornwall, and particularly from East Looe and West Looe. About two months since, three barks of the said towns, on a fishing voyage upon the coasts, were taken by the Turks, and 27 persons carried away into miserable slavery, which loss falls the more heavy upon the said towns, by reason of their former losses in two preceding years, wherein they lost four barks and 42 persons, whereby the said towns are not only impoverished, but by means of the wives and children of these poor captives (being above 100 persons) are so surcharged, as they are likely to fall into great decay, and through the terror of that misery whereunto these persons are carried by these cruel infidels, the owners and seamen rather give over their trade than put their estates and persons into so great peril, there being now 60 vessels and about 200 seamen without employment. In other parts the Turks have taken other vessels, and chased others so that they have run on the rocks, choosing rather to lose their boats than their liberty. These Turks daily show themselves at St. Keverne, Mount's Bay, and other places, that the poor fishermen are fearful not only to go to the sea, but likewise lest these Turks should come on shore and take them out of their houses. Such being the condition of these parts, the justices beseech his Majesty to take the same into his consideration. 

On 20th June 1631, a fleet of ships led by a Dutchman who had “turned Turk,” with crews augmented with over two hundred janissaries, sacked the village of Baltimore in Ireland. ​The man leading the raid had been born in the Dutch city of Haarlem as Jan Jansen round about 1575. He had been a privateer working for the Dutch, and had been captured by Barbary corsairs some time between 1613 and 1618. Taken as a slave, Jansen had adopted the religious faith of his captors and thereby obtained his freedom. Jansen, who was now going under the name Murat Reis, ended up in Algiers where he served as first mate aboard an Algerian privateer before moving to Salé and embarking upon his own career as skipper of his own boat. Reis was so successful that he became Admiral of the fleet of privateers at Salé. 

​En route to the southern coast of Ireland, Reis had attacked several other boats and taken their crews as slaves. The skipper of one of these boats, Edward Fawlett, had decided to assist Reis, probably in order to avoid both an immediate bout of torture and a long-term future as a slave in North Africa. Another of these skippers, John Hackett, did likewise. As the slavers anchored off Baltimore and rowed closer to the shore in small boats to reconnoitre the town, Fawlett is known to have accompanied Reis, and to have used his local knowledge to explain the layout of the town, and to point out the houses of anyone who might resist the slavers. ​The slavers landed and attacked the houses in the part of the town known as “The Cove.” They lit torches and thrust them into the thatched roofs, then accosted the residents as they ran from their houses. Two of the locals, Tim Curlew and John Davys, tried to resist, but were cut down by the waiting janissaries. 

After the slavers had captured approximately one hundred people from this part of the town, they moved to the main part of the town and started breaking into the houses there. However, only around ten people from this part of the town were captured, because some of the residents realised what was happening and had managed to escape. From beyond sight of the slavers, one of the townsfolk, a man named William Harris, started firing his rifle, and someone else started to beat on a drum, which led Reis to believe that a military detachment could be in the area. The slavers quickly gathered their newest captives (all of whom were white) and made for the sea. ​

As bad as the raid on Baltimore was, it could have been worse. Some four years earlier, Murat Reis had participated in a raid on Iceland. The Dutch renegado was the skipper of a ship that landed at Grindavik on the south-west coast on 20th June of 1627, where he and his crew captured around thirty Icelanders and Danes. On July 5th, three slave ships from Algiers had carried out a series of raids on the south-west coast, taking eighteen Danes and over a hundred of the local Icelanders captive, before heading for the Westman Islands, just off the southern coast. On this occasion, with no fear of interruption by military forces (real or imagined), the corsairs had embarked on a violent rampage not unlike the terrorist attack on southern Israel that took place on 7th October 2023. 

According to one account, the slavers invaded the island and drove everyone towards the shore. Anyone who did not move quickly enough was beaten to death on the spot - pour encourager les autres. The corsairs set fire to the islanders’ homes, and in one particularly gruesome incident, they threw a mother and her two year old child into one of the newly lit fires, laughing as they forced their victims deeper into the flames with their spears. One of the locals, a man named Bjarni Valdason, was beaten by the corsairs until he died. When his wife fell down beside him, she was dragged away from her husband, and had to watch as the body was cut into pieces before her. Another man, Erlendur Runólfsson, was stripped naked and made to stand at the edge of a cliff, where he was shot at until he fell to the rocks below. The bodies of people who had been murdered lay on the ground everywhere. Many of the female bodies lay in a state of nakedness that spoke to the depravity of the perpetrators. As a final declaration of hostility towards the islanders' religion, the local church was deliberately set aflame. The captured men, women and children (all of whom were white) were then forced aboard the slavers' ships. When the corsairs began the journey back south to North Africa, they had approximately 380 new slaves on board. In addition, it is estimated that between thirty and forty people had been murdered by the corsairs. ​

Another notable incident in the history of the Barbary Coast is the capture in 1716 of a young man named Thomas Pellow, who was taken by privateers whilst sailing on the return leg of a trip to Genoa aboard the Francis, a boat skippered by his uncle, John Pellow. After Pellow finally managed to escape (after some twenty three years) and make his way back to Britain, he wrote an account of his life as a white slave in North Africa, so the story of Pellow's capture became quite well known. After the Francis had completed the trip to Genoa and they were heading home again, Pellow wrote: 

And now, indeed, the unhappy part of my life draws near. For having made our voyage, our cargoes out and in, and by God's providence bound home, we were off Cape Finisterre very unhappily surprised by two Sallee rovers, and, together with Captain Foster, of Topsham (after such small resistance as we could both make), taken and carried prisoners on board of the infidels, as was also the next day Captain Ferris of London, in a ship of much greater strength, having twenty men, eight swivel and eight carriage guns, though they behaved in the bravest manner, fighting ten hours, and with a noble resolution, putting the Moors off, after boarding them three times, and killing many of them; but being overpowered by a superior force they were also obliged to submit, and to become our comrades. ​

The corsairs did not limit their attacks to boats from countries that lay east of the Atlantic. American boats fell victim to these privateers from the Barbary states too. In July 1785, the Dauphin was sailing off the coast of Portugal when she was approached by another vessel. The unsuspecting American skipper, Richard O'Brien, allowed the foreign vessel to get too close to his own, and before the crew knew what was happening, an armed raiding party was coming aboard. The attackers of the Dauphin turned out to be privateers, sailing on behalf of the Barbary state of Algiers. O'Brien and his crew were taken back to North Africa and thrown in a slave pen. Together with the crew of another American ship, the Maria, they were forced to break rocks, then drag massive sleds containing the pieces down to the harbour where the rocks and rubble were used to construct a new breakwater. Many of these Americans would die as slaves - worked to death under the heat of the North African sun. ​

In March 1876, the two men who would become the second and third Presidents of the United States, John Adams and Thomas Jefferson, met together in London. Adams was at that time serving his government as the first American ambassador to Great Britain, and Jefferson was acting as minister to the government in France. Adams had visited the home of Sidi Haji Abdrahaman, the ambassador from the Barbary state of Tripoli, a few weeks earlier. The meeting had gone well, with the two men smoking pipes together. Adams thought that another meeting with Abdrahaman could be helpful, as the American politicians wondered what to do about the enslaved sailors. 

Adams and Jefferson duly met with Abdrahaman at the home of the Tripolitan ambassador, and the conversation soon turned to the American slaves currently being held in North Africa. Abdrahaman informed the two Americans that it would take the exorbitant sum of 30,000 English guineas, the equivalent at that time of approximately 120,000 dollars, for Tripolitan privateers to no longer attack American shipping. The United States would also have to reach separate agreements with the other Barbary states of Tunis, Algiers and Morocco. To all intents and purposes, these Islamic states were running a protection racket that would today be recognised as a criminal enterprise, with one hand wielding a sharpened scimitar, and the other outstretched in the expectation of payment. 

According to a letter sent later that month to John Jay, who was at that time the American Secretary for Foreign Affairs, Adams and Jefferson thereupon “took the liberty to make some enquiries concerning the Grounds of their pretentions to make war upon Nations who had done them no Injury.” The response the two men received is noteworthy: 

The Ambassador answered us that it was founded on the Laws of their Prophet, that it was written in their Koran, that all nations who should not have acknowledged their authority were sinners, that it was their right and duty to make war upon them wherever they could be found, and to make slaves of all they could take as Prisoners, and that every Musselman [Muslim] who should be slain in battle was sure to go to Paradise. ​

The conditions that Christian slaves had to endure at the hands of their Muslim owners were well known to Joseph Pitts, an Englishman who was captured by Barbary privateers in 1678, when he was sailing aboard the Speedwell off the coast of Spain. Pitts wrote a book after his eventual escape, one of several such literary efforts in the genre of the “captive narrative.” Taken by their captors to Algiers, the dey (ruler) of the city took one in eight of the slaves for himself, and the rest were taken along to the badistan (slave market) where, as Pitts describes it: 

There we stand from eight of the Clock in the Morning, until two in the Afternoon (which is the limited time for the Sale of Christians) and have not the least bit of Bread allow'd us during out Stay there. Many Persons are curious to come and take a view of us, while we stand exposed to sale; and others, who intend to buy, to see whether we be sound and healthy, and fit for Service. ​

The life of a slave in North Africa could be precarious, to say the least, with thousands dying of the plague, or being sent to row aboard the Algerian galleys, where they were permanently chained in position below decks and given the poorest food imaginable. Thousands of white Christian slaves from all over Europe were sentenced to lives of hard labour, either on the construction of the harbour's defences or other buildings. Beatings were commonplace, as described by Pitt: 

Within eight and forty Hours after I was sold, I tasted of their Barbarity; for I had my tender Feet tied up, and beaten twenty, or thirty Blows for a beginning; And thus was I beat for a considerable time, every two or three Days, besides Blows now and then, forty, fifty, sixty at a time. My Executioner would fill his Pipe, and then give me ten, or twenty Blows, then stop, and smoak his Pipe for a while, and then he would at me again, and when weary stop again; and thus cruelly would he handle me till his Pipe was out.

In Thomas Pellow's account of his years as a slave, we read of his treatment at the hands of his owners. Pellow had been “given by the Emperor to Muley Spha, one of his favourite sons,” and was tortured so that he would become a Muslim. 

My business now, for some time, was to run from morning to night after his horse's heels; during which he often prompted me to turn Moor, and told me, if I would, I should have a very fine horse to ride on, and I should live like one of his best esteemed friends. To which I used to reply, that as that was the only command wherein I could not readily gratify him, I humbly hoped that he would be pleased, of his great goodness, to suspend all future thoughts that way, for that I was thoroughly resolved not to renounce my Christian faith, be the consequence what it would. Then said he, in a most furious and haughty manner, “Prepare yourself for such torture as shall be inflicted on you, and the nature of your obstinacy deserves.” 

​Pellow then gives an account of being held prisoner by the emperor's son and being bastinadoed. This is the form of torture that is described by Pitt in his account of being held as a slave. In Pellow's case, this was not inflicted upon him purely out of sadism. Muley Spha kept asking Pellow (as he was beating the soles of Pellow's feet) to renounce his faith and become a Muslim. Pellow refused to do so, and somehow managed to endure the bastinado, which did not please his torturer. Pellow wrote later that “now is my accursed master still more and more enraged, and my tortures daily increasing; insomuch, that had not my uncle, and some other good Christians [. . .] privately conveyed me some refreshments, I must have inevitably perished, my prison allowance being nothing but bread and water; so that I was, through my severe scourging, and such hard fare, every day in expectation of its being my last.” 

Muley Spha was driven to such extremes that the young Pellow eventually succumbed, in order to live. “My tortures were now exceedingly increased, burning my flesh off my bones by fire; which the tyrant did, by frequent repetitions, after a most cruel manner; insomuch, that through my so very acute pains, I was at last constrained to submit, calling upon God to forgive me, who knows that I never gave the consent of the heart though I seemingly yielded, by holding up my finger; and that I always abominated them, and their accursed principle of Mahometism.” 

If any of the slaves decided to “raise the finger” as Pellow did, then they may have avoided a terrible fate in the short term, but their home countries would no longer pay a ransom to set these unfortunate slaves (for slaves they remained) free. As Pitt explains, 

’Tis an Error among some too (I find) that as soon as ever a Christian turns Turk, he is emancipated, or becomes free (and so some think of Turks who become Christians, that they also are Freemen;) but as for those Christians who turn Turks, it is not so; for it lies wholly in the Patroon’s Breast to dispose of them as he pleaseth. I have known those who have continued Slaves many Years after they have turn’d Turks; nay, some even to their Dying-day. And many, I am sure, have been as little respected by their Patroons after the changing of their Religion, as (or less than) before. For my part, I remain’d several Years a Slave after my Defection, suffered a great deal of cruel Usage, and then was sold again. 

The capturing of slaves by privateers from the Barbary states was neither an opportunistic nor a short-lived phenomenon. The ransoms that were sometimes paid for enslaved passengers and crew, the cargoes taken from the captured boats and the “tributes” that were paid to the Barbary states (Morocco, Algiers, Tunis and Tripoli) by the leaders of different European nations as they tried to persuade the terroristic privateers to not attack their citizens formed a significant part of the revenue that was generated by these Islamic states. The practice of enslaving white people was not only a way to make money, it was part of the culture in the Barbary states. 

Hayreddin Barbarossa is known to have used white slaves to build a breakwater at Algiers after he took over the city in 1529, and white sailors were still being abducted and enslaved in North Africa almost three centuries later, long after the British government had passed the Act for the Abolition of the Slave Trade in 1807. 

The story of hundreds of thousands of white Christian slaves being abducted and enslaved in North Africa may not be well known today, but these events are significant because they directly refute the assertion that only people with white skin engaged in slavery. 

The historical fact that hundreds of thousands of white Christians were abducted and enslaved by Muslims from the Barbary States; the actions of men like William Wilberforce, John Newton, Granville Sharp and Thomas Clarkson, all of whom strove to put an end to slavery; the signing of the Abolition of the Slave Trade Act on 16th March 1807 and the subsequent formation of the Royal Navy's West Africa Squadron, which was in action for almost sixty years, are being erased from history. ​

The enemies of free speech who have infiltrated our society are attempting to access the hard drive of human history and delete these folders. They would like nothing better than to overwrite those memory locations with ones and zeroes, so that the files can never be retrieved. Before they are able to do this, each of us needs to remember that as an individual human being (who has the right to seek, receive and impart information and ideas through any media and regardless of frontiers), we have the ability to open up the recycle bin of history, click on the folders about white British men doing everything they could to end slavery, and the folder containing all of the information that has been recorded about the Barbary States, and restore them all.

An Islamic school is coming to Winston-Salem. The only question appears to be whether it will be funded by taxpayers or not. via Mosque leaders want a full-time Islamic school in Winston-Salem

Winston-Salem will have a full-fledged Islamic school within the next two years, say leaders at the Community Mosque of Winston-Salem.

“We’re exploring all possibilities,” said Imam Khalid Griggs. “We have a commitment from the mosque’s leadership to make this happen.”

Leaders are looking into creating a private school or a charter school.

Islamic private schools already operate in several North Carolina cities, including Charlotte, Raleigh, Greensboro and Durham.

The United States had 235 elementary or secondary private schools with an Islamic orientation in 2008, according to the latest count from the National Center for Education Statistics.

Mosque leaders in Winston-Salem have looked into whether their current location at 1419 Waughtown St., the site of a former church, could be used for the school.

But state law requires that kindergarten and primary school classrooms have a door or emergency exit to the outside, and the classrooms in the mosque don’t have this.

“So we’d have to buy land and build,” Griggs said. “The current mosque would not work.”

North Carolina has a cap on charter schools, with the cutoff at 100.

Ninety-nine charter schools operate in North Carolina today, with the 100th already approved, said Joel Medley, a consultant with the Office of Charter Schools in the N.C. Department of Education.

“It looks like the incoming legislature might look at this issue,” and perhaps raise or get rid of the cap, Medley said.

In any case, N.C. law states that charter schools, which receive government funding, must be nonsectarian, meaning that they cannot be attached to a religious entity. Charter schools are public but operate outside the system of regular schools and generally follow a specialized curriculum or operating principles.

What Drives Islam to be the Religion of War

"He it is who has sent His Messenger (Mohammed) with guidance and the religion of truth (Islam) to make it victorious over all religions even though the infidels may resist." Koran 61:9

This isn't a new article, but if anyone happened to miss it the first time, I strongly suggest reading it now. For the very least, it helps put a lot of thoughts into place - something that Daniel Greenfield excels at.

Why is Islam constantly a source of war, violence and discord? The problem simply enough is theological, because to its followers the validity of Islam is directly connected to its physical supremacy. As followers of the purported "final revelation" to mankind, Muslims not only have the obligation to conquer and subjugate the rest of the world, their religion is only meaningful to the extent that they can carry on the work begun by Mohammed.

Since Islam derives meaning primarily from physical supremacy, war becomes an act of faith. To believe in Islam, is to have faith that it must and will conquer and subjugate the entire world. And to be a true Muslim, one must feel called to aid in that global conquest, whether it is by providing money and resources to the Jihadists or to be a Jihadist yourself. Because Islam is expressed in physical supremacy, violence against non-Muslims become the essence of religion. And anything that suggests Islam is not absolutely superior touches on Islamic insecurities as blasphemy...

Having recently watched a series about American history in the last four centuries, one trait that often got emphasized was perseverance: the ability to carry on with a daunting task despite hardships, and losses. From the great engineering projects, like the hover dam, the Erie canal, and the California Aqueduct, through the colonization of the great plains, to the taking of Omaha beach, and the stand against Communism, Americans did not stop trying just because they failed on the first try.

Israeli mentality, on the other hand, suffers from a self-destructive syndrome known as 'Zbeng vegamarnu' ("one blow and it's over", in rough translation). While very proud of the efforts they take to protect the lives of their soldiers (after sending them into unnecessary high-risk urban combat), once a battle plan goes awry, and people do get killed, the whole operation it is quickly labelled as a complete failure, and a catastrophe of immeasurable proportions.
For the sake of brevity, I will not mention individual cases, but whenever there was a casualty of war during operation "Cast Lead" in Gaza, and the last Lebanese war, one could count on grim titles appearing on newspaper fronts, as well as lengthy debates on television and radio shows.
Whereas other nations strengthen their resolve in the face of adversity, or simply acknowledge the simple fact that people die in wars, Israelis see casualties as a sign of deep failure, and a reason to proclaim defeat.
This line of thought is as much the result of the unrealistic expectations, set by the magnificent victory of the six-days-war (as one satirical piece has put it recently: the Yom Kippur war was a terrible defeat, because we won in nineteen days, as opposed to the customary six), as well as the indulgent fantasy that wars can somehow be fought without casualties (preferably to both sides, so as not to offend anyone).

The enemy is well aware of this attitude, and is easily emboldened by it, because groups like Hamas and Hezbollah know all they have to do is kill enough Israeli soldiers in one fight (5+ will usually do the trick), to get the Israeli public fretting about the disaster. Immediately, worried women will demand that their soft children will be sent home from the front, leftist extremist will cite the horrors brought upon by Israel's colonialist, imperialist, and pure-evilist tendencies, and the media will inflate every sad personal story to absolutely ridiculous proportions.
It is no wonder, therefore, that both Hezbollah, and Hamas, claimed victory after the recent conflicts. What's worse - they were right, but not for the reasons that Israeli defeatist love to bring.

The reason they were right is that Israel does not have the luxury of ending a conflict whenever it pleases. The moment it goes to fight an Islamic, or Arab enemy, the only condition for peace should be the shameful surrender of that enemy. A voluntary ceasefire at any earlier stage simply invites the next war, as the recent decades have shown time and again.
Case in point, the war on Gaza could've only ended in Israel's favor had the leadership of Hamas publicly admitted defeat. The moment the IDF unilaterally withdrew from the strip, the clock to the next violent conflict started ticking, and you can quote me on that. The other side, on the other hand, defined victory as simply surviving, and there is no doubt it has accomplished that task.
Moreover, Hamas' local victory against Israel was observed by Muslims all over the world, encouraging them to carry on their global jihad. Thus, by sparing Gazans from paying the price of their own choices, my country has committed a different crime against humanity.

To create peace, Israel should not grovel before inferior Arab thugs like Abu-Abbas, but instead squash them mercilessly. That will make the surrounding Arab countries respect it, out of fear - the only preserver of peace in the Middle East. Any attitude that pretends otherwise, is an irresponsible self-indulgence that leads to more bloodshed.

9. Stop the building of new mosques. As long as no churches or synagogues are allowed to be build in countries like Saudi-Arabia we will not allow one more new mosque in our western countries. Close all mosques where incitement to violence is taking place. Close all Islamic schools, for they are fascist institutions and young children should not be educated an ideology of hate and violence

10. Get rid of the current weak leaders. We have the privilege of living in a democracy. Let’s use that privilege and exchange cowards for heroes. We need more Churchills and less Chamberlains.

In short, we have to go on the offensive and start fighting back. We must no longer allow ourselves to remain seated in our armchairs and get trampled over. If they bombard us with Sharia law, we will bombard them back with our human rights. …”

The problems of being a Christian in Egypt.

Eygpt has a failry large Christian population and of course as in any Islamic country, this can be extremely hazardous to the Christian's health and life. Bishoy Armia Boules, who used to be Mohamed Hegazy is battling to have his national ID card updated and changed to 'Christian.' Boules is not alone in this fight. There is a strong, concerted effort by the government to stone wall this at every step. This statement sums up the popular sentiment in Egypt;  “What they do and especially now with all the tensions between Christians and Muslims across the country is wrong,” said Karim, a young Muslim in Cairo.


“They have a right to believe whatever they want, but to go public and try and get famous for their conversion is wrong and is probably not the best thing for a country struggling with our religious differences.”

Cairo Christian conversion controversy

bikyamasr.com , CAIRO: On Tuesday, a Cairo court suspended a lawsuit filed by 27-year-old Mohamed Hegazy that he had hoped would give him the right to list “Christian” on his national identification cards. The court said that they could not rule on the case until the country’s Constitutional Court gave a ruling on the constitutionality of a 2009 case on Article 47 of the Civil Code, which is supposed to allow citizens the right to change their name and religion on ID material.


Hegazy’s situation is the most high-profile case of a Muslim man who converted to Christianity. He wants to have this officially documented to the government, but has run against a number of road blocks in his fight for freedom of religion.

His lawyers told local newspapers that the most likely scenario will mean years of litigation as the government continues to push the case aside in favor of “appeasing Islamists” in the country.

Under Article 47 of Egypt’s Civil Code, citizens are allowed to change their religion, however Article 2 states that Islam is the “religion of the state” and “principles of Islamic law represent the principle source of legislation.”

Under a strict viewing of Islamic Sharia law, conversion away from Islam can be punishable by death, although most scholars do not push for this penalty.

Hegazy has changed his name to Bishoy Armia Boules, said he converted to Christianity at 16-years-old and is the first Egyptian in modern times to publicly announce his conversion, which has led to a number of difficulties for the man.

Hegazy is not the only person publicly challenging the government over religious conversion. In 2008, Maher el-Gohary also filed a lawsuit to have his ID’s change to recognize him as a Christian.

“He can believe whatever he wants in his heart, but on paper he can’t convert,” the judge had told the administrative court during the 2008 legal battle.

Gohary, who has already changed his name to Peter, says that he converted to Christianity 34 years ago when he was attending the police academy in Cairo, but later dropped out of the academy because he was scared.

Judges often base their decisions on religious freedoms on Article II of the Egyptian constitution, which states that Islamic law is the source of national laws. The judge in the Hegazy case said that “according to Islamic law, Islam is the final and most complete religion and therefore Muslims already practice full freedom of religion cannot return to an older belief (Christianity or Judaism).”

After the initial hearing, on “The Truth,” a Dream television program the debate heated up between Gohary and his lawyer versus a Coptic lawyer and a member of the Muslim Brotherhood. Host Wael Ibrashy, a leading editor in the country, called on Gohary to explain his actions and why he chose a time when sectarian tensions were rising.

“Christians have to be quiet because of their faith,” replied Gohary. “Police are at the door of the Cathedral and they won’t let me in, so that is a major reason behind my decision.”

But Mamdouh Nakhla, a leading Coptic lawyer, said last year he believed Gohary was simply attempting to gain notoriety and fame by going public.

“Christianity is all about faith. It is very person,” Nakhla began, “so I don’t know why he is doing this now unless he just wants fame and money and this timing is very bad for the country. If we take the example of Jesus, when we pray we don’t make it public, we go into our room and pray to God in a personal manner.”

Nakhla says that Gohary will have a difficult time proving he honestly and truthfully converted to Christianity. The lawyer said that Gohary must prove that he was baptized and that this is not an attempt to marry a Christian wife.

Gohary, who has been married twice previously, is engaged to a Christian woman. He claims that he left Egypt and traveled to Cyprus in the past, where he was baptized, although there is no documentation of that event.

The cases of Hegazy and Gohary have led to a public outcry in a predominantly Muslim nation. Many Egyptians feel these sort of publicizing of religious conversions are an attempt to attack Islam.

Islam is the only religion that does not adhere to the Golden Rule

The closest that Islam comes to this principle is a hadith that says
"None of you [truly] believes until he wishes for his brother what he wishes for himself." Number 13 of Imam "Al-Nawawi's Forty Hadiths."

This brotherhood however does not extend to everyone. Quran (9:23) states that the believers should not take for friends and protectors (awlia) their fathers and brothers if they love Infidelity above Islam. In fact there are many verses that tell the Muslims to kill the unbelievers and be harsh with them. A clear example that Islam is not based on the Golden Rule is the verse (48:29) It says: "Muhammad is the messenger of Allah; and those who are with him are strong against Unbelievers, (but) compassionate amongst each other.”

This is the perfect definition of fascism. There are many other verses that show the brotherhood in Islam is not universal. The rest of mankind have no rights and should not be treated in the same way that Muslims are to be treated. The entire Quran is the breach of the Golden Rule. Quran tells Muslims to slay the unbelievers wherever they find them (2:191), do not befriend them (3:28), fight them and show them harshness (9:123), and smite their heads (47:4).

EDL to protest mega mosque In Dudley on April 3rd

The EDL(English Defence League) will be in Dudely on Arpil 3 to protest a huge mega-mosque that has already been denied by the planning council, most likely on planning or blueprint guidlines rather than the dangers of what actually takes place inside most mosques. As this post mentions, the role of a church and a mosque are quite different. As often happens some dingbat in the government overturned the council's wise decision and has allowed the mosque project to continue. Reminds me of what Obama and the demosocialistacrats have done with Obamacare and many other key issues.

The EDL demonstration in Dudley promises to be a well attended demonstration that will be of historic importance. By attending, people have the opportunity to be part of the nation’s long and illustrious story. This is a critical time for England as it struggles with the legacy of misrule and incompetent leadership. Only the British people can now save Great Britain from its decline by standing up and being counted at this important juncture. When people ask where were you on 3 April 2010, what will you say? The English Defence League Will Join Hands With The People of Dudley And Oppose Sharia In The Town on 3 April 2010

Liberties Alliance, The English Defence League (EDL) Dudley demonstration is fast approaching and there is nothing that the pro Islamist toadies in the establishment can do about it! It seems that they may finally have to accept public opinion or risk losing their own political influence. The people of Dudley have a unique opportunity to join with like minded people from around the country and indeed from across Europe to stand up and say with a single voice ‘enough is enough’! In doing so those who do decide to join this important demonstration will be part of a multinational, multiracial, trans-social coalition of people who are joining together to oppose the tyranny and iniquity of sharia. It is an opportunity for people to thumb their noses at the political class who claim to know what is best for people and what is best for society. Any rational assessment that involves even a modicum of common sense would reveal such establishment proclivities toward the socially destructive and divisive to be the nonsense that we all know they are.

One of the key issues with regard to Dudley is the mega mosque project there. Due to public pressure, the Council effectively told the proponents of the structure to stick it by denying planning permission. I am sure they did it on justified planning grounds rather than by assessing the role of mosques in Islam, which perhaps should have been part of their deliberations, and indeed all deliberations with regard to the construction of mosques. However, it would appear that what in the opinion of some is a pro Government lackey overrode the decision of the democratic representatives of the people and reversed the Council decision – so much for local democracy and accountability!

 Policy makers are probably already aware, though choose to negligently ignore, the publication entitled ‘The Mosque Exposed’ by S Solomon and E Almaqdis which outlines the role of the mosque in society and demonstrates quite clearly that its role is not identical to that of a Christian Church as many people erroneously believe. A mosque is not just a place of worship and spiritual reflection. Those who are interested in learning about the role of a mosque in society, be they ordinary members of the public or policy makers who have been entrusted as the custodians of national well-being, should certainly set time aside to read this excellent and informative little book – it is a real eye-opener.

Geert Wilders will use the killer of Theo Van Goghas a witness for HIS defense

Geert Wilders is staunch defender of a free Holland.
He has been in the forefront in the battle against
banning the Koran in Holland. Muslims there have
pressed charges against him and he will have day

Mr. Wilders will call Mohammed Bouyeri for part
of his defense. Bouyeri murderded Van Gogh in the

Gates of Vienna: The Bouyeri Defense

Mohammed Bouyeri is a Dutch-born Muslim of Moroccan descent who murdered Theo Van Gogh on the streets of Amsterdam just over five years ago.

Bouyeri, as you may recall, was less than repentant about his crime after he was caught and charged, and was unabashed in his insistence that he did it for the sake of Islam. Here are some quotes from the defendant at his trial:

“I don’t feel your pain. I don’t have any sympathy for you. I can’t feel for you because I think you’re a non-believer.”

“I did what I did purely out of my beliefs. I want you to know that I acted out of conviction and not that I took his life because he was Dutch or because I was Moroccan and felt insulted.”

“If I ever get free, I would do it again.”

“I shot to kill and be killed. You cannot understand.”

Mohammed Bouyeri shot Van Gogh eight times.

After shooting the victim and nearly decapitating him, Bouyeri used a knife to impale five pages of text on the chest of the corpse. One of the pages contained verse written by the killer himself, entitled “Drenched in Blood”:

But this certainly does not end the story.

This same Mohammed Bouyeri — unrepentant, forthright in his insistence that it is a moral duty for Muslims to kill infidels — will be called by Geert Wilders as a defense witness when he goes on trial next month for defaming Islam.

As our expatriate Dutch correspondent H. Numan points out, this is a brilliant move on Wilders’ part — the Dutch government is hardly likely to welcome additional polemics from Mohammed Bouyeri, which can only remind the Dutch people of why Mr. Wilders is right about the Islamic danger.

On the 20th of next month Geert Wilders will have to defend himself in (a kangaroo) court. Today Wilders came up with a brilliant defense: he’ll have the murderer of Theo van Gogh appear as witness.

Mohammed must appear if summoned as a witness. If necessary he can be transported under force to the (kangaroo) courtroom. By law he is required to answer questions, unless those questions would incriminate him. To remain silent is punishable by law.


“I doubt if this will impress him very much (he is doing life — and life in Holland means life), however, I don’t think it unlikely he wants to talk,” according Mr. Moszkowicz, Wilders’ defense counsel.

He is just one of the many witnesses the defense will call to the stand. “He is living evidence that Islam is the inspiration for violence,” according to Wilders.

Do peaceful, moderate Muslims matter or can they make a difference?

I have often questioned the depth or
validity of 'moderate Muslims'. Why,
their silence is defeaning. If a majority
of Muslims are moderate, then they
should be speaking out, and loudly to
derail the elements of radical Islam that
has hijacked their religion. Yet, when they
moderate Muslims do speak out, they are
usually met with violence, persecution and
many times, death. I believe this why so
many remain silent, from fear of retribution

I used to know a man whose family were German aristocracy prior to World War Two. They owned a number of large industries and estates. I asked him how many German people were true Nazis, and the answer he gave has stuck with me and guided my attitude toward fanaticism ever since.

“Very few people were true Nazis” he said, “but, many enjoyed the return of German pride, and many more were too busy to care. I was one of those who just thought the Nazis were a bunch of fools. So, the majority just sat back and let it all happen. Then, before we knew it, they owned us, and we had lost control, and the end of the world had come. My family lost everything. I ended up in a concentration camp and the Allies destroyed my factories.”

We are told again and again by “experts” and “talking heads” that Islam is the religion of peace, and that the vast majority of Muslims just want to live in peace. Although this unquantified assertion may be true, it is entirely irrelevant. It is meaningless fluff, meant to make us feel better, and meant to somehow diminish the specter of fanatics rampaging across the globe in the name of Islam. The fact is, that the fanatics rule Islam at this moment in history. It is the fanatics who march. It is the fanatics who wage any one of 50 shooting wars world wide. It is the fanatics who systematically slaughter Christian or tribal groups throughout Africa and are gradually taking over the entire continent in an Islamic wave. It is the fanatics who bomb, behead, murder, or honor kill. It is the fanatics who take over mosque after mosque. It is the fanatics who zealously spread the stoning and hanging of rape victims and homosexuals. The hard quantifiable fact is, that the “peaceful majority” is the “silent majority” and it is cowed and extraneous.

This is the usual and customary

response from Islam.

Communist Russia was comprised of Russians who just wanted to live in peace, yet the Russian Communists were responsible for the murder of about 20 million people. The peaceful majority were irrelevant. China’s huge population was peaceful as well, but Chinese Communists managed to kill a staggering 70 million people. The Average Japanese individual prior to World War 2 was not a war mongering sadist. Yet, Japan murdered and slaughtered its way across South East Asia in an orgy of Killing that included the systematic killing of 12 million Chinese civilians; most killed by sword, shovel, and bayonet. And, who can forget Rwanda, which collapsed into butchery. Could it not be said that the majority of Rwandans were “peace loving”.

History lessons are often incredibly simple and blunt, yet for all our powers of reason we often miss the most basic and uncomplicated of points. Peace-loving Muslims have been made irrelevant by the fanatics. Peace-loving Muslims have been made irrelevant by their silence. Peace-loving Muslims will become our enemy if they don’t speak up, because like my friend from Germany, they will awake one day and find that the fanatics own them, and the end of their world will have begun. Peace-loving Germans, Japanese, Chinese, Russians, Rwandans, Bosnians, Afghans, Iraqis, Palestinians, Somalis, Nigerians, Algerians, and many others, have died because the peaceful majority did not speak up until it was too late. As for us who watch it all unfold, we must pay attention to the only group that counts; the fanatics who threaten our way of life.

Warning signs on Hasan were missed.

The hand writing was on the wall,
and not just one time. How many
more are out there? We just do not

administration wants to slow things
down and does not want us jumping
to conclusions. No one is jumping to

How military missed signs

Failure to grasp threats from those in uniform

As Sen. Joe Lieberman, Connecticut independent, officially begins his inquiry this week into the disturbing failures that enabled Fort Hood shooter Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan to stay in uniform, it must go beyond the normal excuses related to bureaucratic bungling.

With the discussion last week devolving into interagency finger-pointing, lost was the simple fact that the failures were systemic. Although the military has done valiant work fighting in Muslim lands, it doesn't seem to grasp how to assess when Muslim personnel could pose an internal threat.

It's easy to rely on hindsight to second-guess after the fact, but based on what we already know, Maj. Hasan had openly embraced Islamic jihadist ideology. Apparently no one who learned of his online screeds or his verbal rants to colleagues understood this, however.

What officials knew about Maj. Hasan was neither trivial nor inconsequential.

In spring, Maj. Hasan wrote an Internet posting that compared suicide bombers to soldiers who sacrifice their lives by falling on a grenade. His reasoning was that suicide bombers "help save Muslims by killing enemy soldiers."

No more explicit justification could be made for the terrorists who have been targeting U.S. service personnel in Iraq and Afghanistan. Yet reports indicate there was no formal investigation into a soldier who praised suicide bombers who "save Muslims" by killing the very people among whom he lived and worked.

More ominous is that only mild concern was sparked by Maj. Hasan's repeated contacts with a cleric openly affiliated with al Qaeda. Although the content of the 10 to 20 e-mails has been described officially as related to "religious guidance" and Maj. Hasan's "research," no rationale could possibly exist for any soldier independently contacting a high-level enemy figure.

Around the time from late 2008 into early this year that the two were in contact, imam Anwar Al-Awlaki issued a fatwa calling on Muslims to kill U.S. soldiers in Iraq. In January, Mr. Al-Awlaki published a manifesto aptly titled "44 Ways to Support Jihad," a how-to manual on all the paths available - from violence to finance - for his followers.

Had investigators merely Googled Imam Al-Awlaki, they would have found his jihad manual and an in-depth profile on him at the web site of the NEFA Foundation, a U.S.-based counterterrorism organization that maintains the largest public database of open-source terrorism intelligence. They also would have been reminded at the NEFA Web site that Imam Al-Awlaki's recorded sermons helped inspire the terrorists who unsuccessfully targeted Fort Dix, N.J., three years ago. In fact, the Fort Dix plotters specifically praised the imam's lecture encouraging self-motivated jihad.

None of that mattered to investigators, because Maj. Hasan didn't explicitly discuss violence or terrorism with his mentor. Traditional metrics for assessing criminal danger, though, do not neatly apply to jihadists.

Most jihadist attacks are not driven by appeals to violence or wanton bloodlust. The stated motive for most jihadists is some form of defending Islam or innocent Muslims from an evil aggressor.

Someone falling into the lure of jihadist ideology becomes a threat long before he even discusses violence. Danger begins with the embrace of a paranoid worldview in which the United States has waged war on pious, peace-loving Muslims. That the United States is fighting self-identified Muslims in two Islamic nations, of course, only makes it easier for jihadists to win over Muslims.

Maj. Hasan didn't just parrot jihadist lines about evil America, though. He openly argued for Islamic violence against the United States. And that was just what he said in front of his colleagues.

Yet despite a pattern of truly incendiary comments - such as telling colleagues during a PowerPoint presentation on Islam in 2007, "We love death more then [sic] you love life!" - he remained in uniform. Much of the evidence points to a critical question: Was Maj. Hasan treated differently because he was a Muslim?

Perhaps the simplest analysis is by way of comparison. In one reported instance, Maj. Hasan told his colleagues that he supported the Muslim who shot two soldiers, killing one, at a military recruitment center in Little Rock, Ark.

Imagine if Maj. Hasan had instead been a secular, garden-variety anti-American radical who told his colleagues that he supported the murder of his fellow soldiers. Is there any doubt such remarks would have generated at least more than the indifference Maj. Hasan's various comments did?

Just as Muslim soldiers should not be presumed unpatriotic, less cannot be expected of them than from their non-Muslim peers.

Defending terrorists and openly identifying with the enemy should be an obvious infraction for any soldier. The same goes for demonizing America or contacting known terrorists.

If the military doesn't change the mind-set that allowed those actions to be ignored or shrugged off, the consequences could be even more devastating the next time.

A SYDNEY couple has withdrawn their two children from a public primary school, claiming their 11-year-old son was bullied by Muslim students because he ate a salami sandwich during Ramadan.


Andrew Grigoriou said yesterday he complained to the school and to police after his son Antonios was chased and later assaulted by Muslim students after a confrontation over the contents of his lunch, The Daily Telegraph reports.

Antonios, a Year 5 student of Greek-Australian background at Punchbowl Public School in Sydney's southwest, said he and a friend had to be locked inside the library for an hour after being chased by a group of Muslim boys offended by his choice of food while they were fasting.

The Grigoriou family said the following exchange took place:

During the confrontation a Muslim boy allegedly accused Antonios of saying: "F--- the Muslims" but Antonios denied swearing.

Mr Grigoriou said he removed his son and a younger child from the school on Tuesday after the boy was punched in the eye and kicked in the legs by a Muslim student.

"It has broken my heart to see this happening to my boy," he said. Antonios, who wrote about his experiences in words and drawings, still has nightmares.

The Department of Education and Training said it had a zero tolerance policy towards racism.

"Claims of bullying or racial intolerance are taken very seriously and looked into," a spokeswoman said. "The School Education Director is looking into the matter and called the father concerned.

"As a result ... the school will work with all families and students involved to ensure that the values promoted by Punchbowl Public School and the department are understood and supported."

After the salami sandwich incident a student described as "the ringleader of the group" was suspended from the school. The department said that the school had "ongoing cultural and interfaith awareness programs to improve understanding among students of events like Ramadan and Christmas".

Other parents also complained to The Daily Telegraph about bullying at the school and claimed victims received too little protection.

One said her 12-year-old son was scared to open his lunch box at school because he was harassed about what is in it. "He has been bullied from day one ... about being a Christian and about the hot salami in his lunch," she said.

"My boy has a Greek background ... the bullying is extreme.

"He has been called a fat pig and hit on the back with a stick."

Another mother said her young son refused to go on school excursions for fear he would be bashed.
