Beheadings in Africa shocks residents

I do not know if there are any connections to Islam so I will not make any comments on that. What is very clear is that this is happening and it is really sick and disgusting. From Jan at Africancrisis.

Zimbabwe: Beheading of Young Girl Shocks Residents
By Nqaba Matshazi

Africancrisis: Bulawayo - A sombre mood gripped the city last Tuesday as residents of Lobengula and Pelandaba trod to the funeral of an 18-month-old toddler.

Normally the funeral of such a young child would not be given much thought, but this one was different. The toddler, a victim of a gruesome murder, was beheaded and her assailant tried to flee with her head. The alleged murderer, Samson Goreraza was remanded in custody by a Bulawayo magistrate on Wednesday.

Police claim the assailant who was acting strangely before committing the crime could be deranged. But this explanation has not been good enough to stop a wave of mass hysteria gripping Bulawayo. With reports of a ready market for human heads in South Africa, residents suspect this could be the reason why the toddler was beheaded.

Ironically, as the assailant tried to flee with the toddler's head, he ran into a stationary South African-registered hearse, raising further suspicions. The police have since cleared the driver of the hearse, saying he was just visiting a relative and was not connected to the murderer.

A number of cases have been reported of people being beheaded and bodies vanishing, but so far this is the only case that has been prosecuted.
At the end of April a man is said to have been arrested at the Plumtree Border Post after he was found in possession of a human head. Police again dismissed the case, claiming nothing of that sort had happened. However, there were a number of people who claimed to have witnessed the arrest.
Recently ZBC reported that a man had been arrested, again in Plumtree, with cooler boxes stashed with human heads.

Last Wednesday rumour swept across the city that a girl had gone missing outside a supermarket, where she was waiting for her mother who was doing some shopping. This story is yet to be verified as well.

It is feared that there is a syndicate operating in Matabeleland with the help of funeral parlours that is taking bodies and heads for resale in South Africa, where it is reported that they are making a killing from body parts.

There are various theories as to what the heads are used for. Some claim that the heads are used as bait to catch a certain type of fish in the ocean, this fish in turn vomits gold bringing instant wealth to its owner.
With the football World Cup in South! Africa, it is feared that the demand for heads could have risen as people hope to cash in on the sporting showcase.

The police on the other hand could have unwittingly given rise to the speculation through their awareness campaigns. Before the start of the World Cup they went about telling people that there could be a rise in child and human trafficking during the soccer showpiece and advised caution.
Some schools have reportedly asked parents to accompany and their children to and from school. The sight of young children playing on the streets in high density suburbs is fast becoming a rarity.
