This is from Jan of Africancrisis. Please note that the use of the word 'blacks' is not derogatory or racist in Southern Africa. So please spare me your comments about how this word is used. The majority of the workers who work at Eskom's Medupi power station are black. The fact that all this food is wasted every day is what is tragic. The race of those doing this does not matter. Black, White, whatever color skin, this is a horrible waste. Eskom has already asked a a very large increase in rates. Something is seriously rotten here besides the waste of food and resources.
S.Africa: The incredible waste ungratefulness of Black people at Eskom's Medupi power station....
By Jan LamprechtThis is truly disgusting, especially here in Africa, especially at a time of global financial meltdown - at a time when people in South Africa and worldwide are losing their jobs.
A friend sent me this. I kept his Viking quote - pretty cute.
I'm keeping the original commentary, and I've translated the Afrikaans paragraph. This is so disgusting. You see... people never appreciate anything free.
The older I get, the more I believe that EVERYTHING FREE must be SCRAPPED for EVERYONE EVERYWHERE. Everyone must be made to PAY for anything they want. Why? Because it forces people to MAKE CHOICES and when they are forced to weigh up what's important, then you'll see them wasting so much less.! It will benefit everyone. ANYTHING that is free, including email is abused. The moment you make people pay for anything, even if they pay a tiny fee, then they'll think again. And that is the crux of capitalism and why capitalism is so efficient.
Look at this wastage at Eskom. This is our electricity provider. This is the same lot who will be increasing our electricity prices by 25% or 35% per annum because they say they need the money to fix the infrastructure. But look at this waste and all the assorted nonsense that goes on at Medupi power station.
So this is the "work" that our money is doing. Sickening. Jan]

This was taken on Friday 11 June 2010 – who can justify such waste??????
WE ARE NEVER SATISFIED WITH WHAT WE GET WE ALWAYS WANT MORE.
[Jan's translation of the above: "The people (on site, not the office
staff) at Medupi get free packets of food every day (lunch time), there was an agreement with Eskom that after a year they will all get a warm meal. MPS-JV's (???) people are now tired of their left over food and we will now see today what they will do, yesterday they stormed down on the management in their offices and began to throw food.]
Now you might get an idea why Eskom needed a couple of billion ... Daily thousands of employees at Medupi receive free food, on top of free accommodation, transport, etc...... and considering 900,000 people lost their jobs las! t year, and how many million people are living under poverty and don't know where there next meal is coming from.... these photo's just explain it all!!!!
