Amber Alert: Kyron Horman, Portland Oregon

The search for Kyron Horman has now been widened and the FBI has now joined the search and investigation. What is extremely disturbing is the way the school dropped the ball and did not notify the parents until late in the day at "3:34 p.m. Friday, when Kyron failed to come home on the school bus. The Hormans called the school and the search for Kyron officially began." Where we live, the school district is very quick to call if either of our kids are not in class within an hour or two. One of the few things our local school district does well. This is pretty much my backyard.

Examiner.com: Authorities in Portland, Oregon are searching for a missing 7-year-old: Kyron Horman. Kyron Horman was last seen on June 4, 2010 at the Skyline Elementary school. Authorities say that Kyron’s stepmother, Terri Moulton Horman attended a school science fair with Kyron early Friday morning. She told authorities that she left Kyron at the school at approximately 8:45 and watched as he headed towards his class. Then she left. That was the last reported sighting of Kyron Horman.

Though it is customary for teachers to notify parents when students are absent, the Hormons were never notified that Kyron failed to make it to class. They were unaware that he was missing until 3:34 p.m. Friday, when Kyron failed to come home on the school bus. The Hormans called the school and the search for Kyron officially began.

The FBI has joined the search for the 7-year-old, his story has been featured on America’s Most Wanted and aerial and canine units have canvassed the area looking for clues regarding Kyron’s whereabouts. Additionally, student and parents from Skyline Elementary have been questioned but there are no details that have lead authorities to find Kyron.

Kyron Horman was born on September 9, 2002. He is 7-years old, stand 3’8” and weighs 50 pounds. He has brown hair and blue eyes.

Kyron Horman was last seen wearing a black tee-shirt with a CSI logo in green letters. He was also wearing black cargo pants, white socks and black Sketchers sneakers with orange trim. If you have information regarding Kyron’s whereabouts you are asked to contact the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children at 1-800-843-5678 (1-800-THE-LOST)

So an Amber Alert cannot be issued unless the abductor is DESCRIBED?? This has not been changed since the 70's?!
And didn't someone give a tip about a truck?
All schools should instate a requirement that all non-faculty adults attending school events be admitted with ID check. This would help prevent offenders from freely wandering the facility, and would also potentially identify suspicious behavior before they are admitted.
Someone with the authority to make this simple change please act on this now. How can you live with yourself if you don't?

I do not understand this either.
The school does not call the parents until 3:30 PM that day?
Shameful, and the ball got
dropped here and badly. The
school district has been pretty
quiet about this and one can
be pretty sure that the union for
the school district has rules to
'protect' those who might have
screwed up. Now a little boy may
be lost, for good. I know my
heart is breaking over this.
