Questions for a Moderate Muslim

Gary Fouse

This article first appeared in New English Review.

Ever since 9-11, the US and its governments have searched desperately for so-called "moderate Muslims" who advocated peace and coexistence among religions and an end to terrorism. I myself have found the search daunting having listened to "moderates" like Aslan Reza, Tareq Ramadan, Maher Hathout, Faisal Abdul Rauf, and Muzammil Siddiqi to name just a few. Some I have found to be in denial about the troublesome aspects of Islam. Some I consider to be outright deceivers.I have heard some of them actually argue that sharia law is perfectly compatible with the US Constitution.

More credible to me are Muslim reformers, people like Dr Zuhdi Jasser and Shireen Qudosi. They acknowledge there are problems and there are people walking around who are dangerous.

We must concede, however, that most Muslims live quiet lives and are of no threat to anyone. How many of those people have engaged in a violent protest over Mohammad cartoons or wish for a worldwide caliphate, we have no way of knowing.  I assume they know what is in the Koran, just as I assume they know about the life of Mohammad including when he was a warlord. I assume they have also been taught about sharia law.

Thus, I have formulated a list of questions directed to the moderate, peaceful Muslims. As always, I encourage my Muslim readers to weigh in and answer them. I ask these questions as a non-evangelical Christian and use Jesus Christ as my yardstick. Of course, I mean no disrespect or neglect to other major religions like Judaism or Buddhism.

First of all, since Muslims revere Jesus, as well as previous prophets of the monotheistic faith, I ask my Muslim reader:

Did Jesus ever murder anyone?
Did Jesus ever order the murder of anyone?
Did Jesus ever lead an army to advance the Christian faith in battle?
Did Jesus ever order the execution of persons taken captive by his army?
Did Jesus ever take people including women and children as slaves?
Did Jesus ever preach hatred to others who did not share his (religious) beliefs?

The answer to all of the above questions is No.

Now I invite my moderate Muslim readers to ask the same questions about Mohammad.

The answer to the above questions becomes Yes.

In addition, I would ask Muslims if they really believe that the parts of sharia that define women as second class citizens and the parts of sharia (hudud sharia) that mandate death for those who leave Islam, defame Islam or engage in adultery of homosexuality are compatible with US laws. Do they have any place in a free, democratic nation?

The answers are clearly No.

I recently attended an event at Golden West College in Huntington Beach, California entitled, "Islam 101", which featured a female Muslim speaker giving a sugar-coated explanation of Islam. When some of us began to ask hard questions (in a polite and non-disruptive manner when called upon), not only were questioners called outside by professors to be admonished, the campus police were actually called. My point in bringing this up is to say that Americans need to have an honest and frank discussion about Islam with moderate Muslims without having to be called racists and Islamophobes. Moderate and peaceful Muslims need to deal with these very legitimate questions.

Jewish Center at UC Irvine Hosting Anti-Zionist Panel

Gary Fouse

This article first appeared in Times of Israel Blogs.

Hat tip Mike Report

The recently-established Center for Jewish Studies at the University of California at Irvine will be hosting a panel discussion on April 16 on, "American Jews and Israel: The next 30 years". The announced discussion is about the relationship between American Jewry and Israel. The announced panelists are Liora Halperin (Benaroya Chair in Israel Studies, University of Washington), Noam Pianko, (Samuel N. Stroum Chair in Jewish Studies, University of Washington) and Hasia Diner (Paul and Sylvia Steinberg professor of American Jewish History, New York University). This event will coincide with the 70th birthday of the State of Israel.
First of all, I am not questioning the academic credentials of the panelists in any way. Nor do I question the right of these people-or anybody else working in Jewish studies- to be a supporter or opponent of  Zionism and/or Israel. I have learned long ago that feelings about Israel are divided among American Jews and that within US academia, many Jewish professors have differing points of view. For example, UCI professor Mark LeVine, who is listed as associated faculty within the center, is an outspoken critic of Israel, which is his right. As for the others in the Center, I don't know who they are or where they stand on Israel. Nor do I much care.

My point is this: Checking into the backgrounds of the three panelists, it is safe to say that they are not supporters of  Zionism. Again, that is their right, and I have no desire to debate the issue with them. My concern is that what we have looming here is yet another academic one-sided bashing of Israel in which all the panelists are of a like mind. It would be safe to predict that they will tell their audience that Israel is losing support among American Jews due to "its oppressive treatment and occupation of Palestinians".

First of all, Diner is no supporter of Zionism, as this article she wrote for Haaretz in 2016 illustrates.

As for Pianko, he serves on a regional advisory council for the New Israel Fund, an organization which often takes more progressive and pro-Palestinian positions as opposed to Israel.

Nor would one infer from this  Middle East Forum report that Halperin is pro-Israel. Just the fact that she was part of a Middle East Studies Association panel pretty much says it all.

My question is, "Where is the balance?" Who would tell the audience that most American Jews still support Israel? Who would say that most Americans support Israel? Who would point out that support for Israel is strong with Evangelical Christians? Who would defend Israel's defensive policies? I know for a fact that a request was sent to the Center's director, Matthias Lehmann, to add a couple of pro-Israel panelists to provide some sort of balance. As of this writing, nothing has changed.

Of course, there is no academic requirement that any event give voice to both sides of an argument. I have attended a few events at UC Irvine put on by students who support Israel (which are usually disrupted by the pro-Palestinian side). It is hard to recall one-sided pro-Israel or conservative events sponsored by academic units, which often give credit to students who attend and often carry the imprimatur and weight of professors, as opposed to events sponsored by student groups.

It is frustrating to work within the academic community (I taught part-time at UC Irvine for 18 years.) and constantly see the non-stop academic bashing of Israel while any effort to bring in pro-Israel speakers is met with disruption. Many of the figures and speakers I have observed and heard speak at UCI and other universities are people I consider to be Jew haters. Now the UC Irvine Center for Jewish Studies puts on a one-sided event against Israel and Zionism. To me, it casts suspicion on the agenda and ideological purpose of this Center. I also note that the Center's advisory board consists of prominent leaders from the Orange County Jewish community, people who are active in major Jewish organizations. Are they paying attention to what's going on? I wonder. Donors and potential donors should pay close attention to what the UC Irvine Center for Jewish Studies is doing.

    Who Is Hafiz Kazi?

    Gary Fouse

On Wednesday, a 51-year-old man named Hafiz Kazi, originally from India, plowed his car through the gate at Travis Air Force Base north of San Francisco, and ignited it with propane tanks, killing himself in the process.

As you will see from the below three news reports, investigators cannot state (or will not) what the motive was.

Jihad Watch, however, identifies Kazi as a Muslim.

But what is the basis for concluding that Kazi is a Muslim? India though not predominately Muslim, has a large Muslim minority, in the tens of millions. Here is a clue:

Hafiz is a Muslim name, meaning one who has completely memorized the Koran. This is not to say that Kazi has memorized the Koran, only that he was given that name at birth. Gates of Vienna elaborates.

Before this case is forgotten, the authorities (and the media) need to clear this issue up. Was this a case of Jihad?

Student Suspended for NOT Walking Out of Class

    Gary Fouse

I remember when I was a college student at Cal State Los Angeles back in the 1960s when the Kent State shooting happened. My French teacher, a liberal gal, came running breathlessly into the classroom telling us about the shooting and that we were not going to hold class while students in Ohio were being shot down. She then walked out leaving us sitting there.

Hey Lady! How about this class I'm paying for?

But now it has come to this. A high school student in Ohio (Coincidence? We don't think so) has been suspended because he chose to remain in class "National Walkout Day"..

I don't want to delve too deep into all the politics going here with the NRA and all that stuff. Suffice to say, why don't they walk out over all the gun violence going on in Chicago with all the young lives being lost? The last thing we need to hear is a bunch of kids telling us they have the answer to these problems. If we adults don't have the answer either do the kids.

But when a teacher tells kids they have to leave class and make some sort of statement (that some  may not agree with) and the school backs it up with a suspension, something is terribly wrong in our educational system.

And something is wrong in our educational system once they decide to teach kids what they are supposed to think about the world to fit their own agendas. In this case, someone needs to lose their job.

Reading Between the Lines in Europe

    Gary Fouse

This article first appeared in New English Review.

The news out of Europe continues to get more and more depressing. From Italy to Sweden, more and more refugees, migrants, and asylum-seekers continue to pour into Western Europe. (The Eastern Europeans, being more sensible, are refusing to accept them.) The predictable result is more terror attacks, everyday street crimes, rapes, and murders being committed by people almost entirely from the Middle East and Africa, predominantly Muslim, people who refuse to assimilate and do not respect the host country's culture. Not only is the continent no longer safe, but the native populations are in danger of being replaced over time. What would have been unthinkable ten or fifteen years ago is now becoming a fact almost to the point of being irreversible.

Sadly, Europe's leaders (including the EU) and media remain oblivious to the disaster. Not only do they ignore the objections of the people, they misinform them. A case in point is the media and how they report crime.

In Sweden, for example, newspapers report incidents of crime as being committed by "youths" (ungdomer). That is uniformly the case with the new Sweden. Riots, rapes and assaults in places like the  RosengĂ„rd area of Malmö  or the Stockholm suburb of Rinkeby are committed by young boys in their teens or men in their 20s. That they are immigrants or Muslims is left out of the report. Names of people arrested are not given until a conviction is obtained. If you were uninformed, you might conclude that there was a serious problem among Swedish youth. There isn't. You have to read between the lines when you see a term like ungdomer or the actual scene of the offense (no-go zones like Rinkeby) to know who actually commits the crime.

In the UK, offenders have been referred to as "Asians". To Americans, that implies Chinese, Japanese, Koreans, Thais etc. To the Brits, however, their Asian population traditionally comes from South Asia, specifically India, Pakistan, Bangladesh etc. Most of the offenders, including the notorious sex groomers (who prostitute young, drug addicted runaway girls ), originate from Pakistan.

The most laughable example, however, is Germany, where a report out of Berlin or the heavily-impacted Rhineland will refer to unidentified offenders as "southerners". To the uninformed reader that might conjure up images of beer-soaked Bavarians in lederhosen and funny green hats. They are actually referring to people from "southern countries" (Middle East-Africa). Even Sgt. Schultz would blush in embarrassment.

Similarly, if you watch European cops and robbers shows, which I do regularly, you would think Europe has always had the same criminal element as we Americans. That's because the bad guys are always either natives or from the former East bloc countries, Russians, Yugoslavians, etc. (They are the most convenient targets.)  Granted, many of the crime shows available here are dated a bit, but safe to say, European shows are as politically correct as our own when it comes to casting villains.

While we don't (yet) have the same type of problems as Europe, we still lament that the enemy cannot be defeated  if we cannot name him. That is also true in Europe.

    LA Teacher's Classroom Outburst

    Gary Fouse

This is one of the worst classroom rants by a teacher/professor that I have heard of. Gregory Salcido, a teacher at El Rancho High School near Los Angeles (and city councilman in Pico Rivera also near Los Angeles) took exception to a student wearing a Marine Corps shirt in his class. He then set off an a vulgar rant against people in the military. Fortunately, the student who was the target of his wrath began to record the rant on his cell phone.

Below are three news report on the incident.

Mr Salcido has his right to say what he thinks about the military. Nobody is going to arrest him. As for his continued employment as a teacher, the school has the right to consider the manner and tone of his remarks in front of his students and decide if this meets their professional expectations to say nothing of their commitment to make every student feel comfortable and in a positive learning environment. In my view, Mr Salcido has failed to live up to those standards.

    Trump Apologizes

    Gary Fouse

President Trump today has apologized for calling Haiti a shit hole. Here is his statement:

"I want to apologize to the people of Haiti for my intemperate remarks referring to their great country as a 'shit hole".

    Image result for trump

"From this point on, I will refer to Haiti as 'the Pit of Misery".

    California Tyranny

    Gary Fouse

I am cross-posting this piece by James E. Horn, friend, colleague, and a fellow California resident. James is a retired US State Department foreign service officer with years of experience serving in the Middle East. I am posting this with his permission.

In this piece James describes what California governor Jerry Brown and his Sacramento cabal are doing to the decent, working and tax paying citizens of this state.

Chains of Tyranny in California Governance Will Meet the Constitutional Juggernaut
    By James E. Horn

I’ll begin this one with a note and a disclaimer: The information and opinions offered in this article are protected under the First Amendment. You have a First Amendment right to either read, pay attention and learn or, to ignore it and remain ignorant. It’s your free choice.

I wish that I could wish everyone a Happy, Healthy, Prosperous New Year.

By any reasonable, responsible standard, California is off of the rails.
The California elite have forgotten that America is a government of the    PEOPLE (citizens) and for the PEOPLE.

Our absurd pot loving dope pushing Governor Jerry Brown, aka the Moonbeam, working hand in hand with a primarily Democratic majority in the State Senate and State Assembly who are principally anti-American Communists, Racists, Socialists, Progressives, and Globalists are creating a frighteningly tyrannical system of governance that is anti-citizen.

Brown is an (expletive) who will rightfully soon see some real havoc thundering his way because of his criminal nature.

Without pitty, Brown has imposed terrible burdens on the good citizens of California with the highest gasoline prices in the nation which hinder consumers from making purchases that ought to strengthen the economy. To exacerbate the gasoline prices, this gang of thieves now want to impose a penny per mile tax on all drivers which will cost businesses and commuters enormously, and further throttle business and economic productivity and progress. Naturally, these New World Order, Agenda 21/2030 gang want people to stop commuting and live in crowded, dingy people-towers and ride non-existing trains to nowhere. This is a brutally abusive form of tyranny guaranteed to denigrate the quality of life for millions of Californians.

The Brown gang passed a law that decriminalized crime. Yes, you read that right! If someone breaks into your car, business, or home and robs you they can get away with a mere citation unless one of the items stolen has a value of over $950.00. If they have a bag full of things deemed worth less than $950.00 individually, their theft of potentially many hundreds or a few thousand dollars of your property will not be considered a felony crime, just a misdemeanor, and a shove out of the jailhouse door. Reprehensible.

The Brown cabal are violently protective of voter fraud. If California had legitimate voting without the fraud, we-the-people would be able to elect servants of the people. Right now, the ruling elite in Sacramento are working hard to subjugate we-the-people so they can live in their ivory towers while our lives become less enjoyable (the free pursuit of life, liberty, and happiness). Evil tyrants like the Sacramento elite can’t tolerate free people. We need to abolish electronic voting which has been proven again and again to be unreliable, susceptible to hacking and vote changing. We need to move back to reliable paper ballots with thumb prints which can sort and invalidate duplicate ballots and be used to press charges against fraudulent voters.

To cement their Communist government, the tyrannical Brown cabal imposed the “top two” tier of listing candidates on ballots. This writer has lived and worked abroad for a quarter of a century and has seen many forms of government in action. What the Brown cabal has done with the “top two” is establish a hard core dictatorship where the party bosses select who the candidates are, and we-the-people can only hope for the best, which will NOT be forthcoming. I believe that this form of selecting or determining candidates is unconstitutional. Mr. Brown and his cabal need to be investigate by the Federal Bureau of Investigation under the RICO (Organized Crime) Act and face the sound of clanging iron bars.

Of course, pot, weed, marijuana, and whatever other monikers are applied is now becoming abundantly available. This smoky pungent pollutant has been “deemed” harmless by reckless politicians. It is well known that potheads become very laid back and less motivated, less situationally aware, and more dependent on the government for support. Stoned potheads on the road are dangerous and will cause an increase in roadkill of decent, innocent people. But, potheads are easy to manage and control and won’t push back against bad governance, so that’s OK. Carnage is OK. Carnage helps with the New World Order/Agenda 21/Agenda 2030 goals of population reduction, right? Further, long term pot use damages the heart and raises the possibility of strokes which will place permanently impaired pot users on welfare rolls for decent people to support; diminished cognitive skills and decision making, increased dementia and paranoia, dietary and nutritional imbalances, damaged lungs, and possibly more. This form of carnage to eliminate the increasingly burdensome and worthless may be considered good.

Still, pot is considered illegal by Federal statute, and this clearly is coming to slam California where federal officers will soon be raiding so called “legal” pot dispensaries and shunting hundreds if not thousands of dealers off to the hoosegow, and hopefully a lot of crooked politicians and greedy officials who are skimming substantial cash from these operations as well.

California is now a sanctuary state. That means that the state government willfully harbors, coddles, and protects criminals. This is another organized crime that needs to be addressed by the Department of Justice under the RICO (organized crime) Act. At this point the Federal government is rapidly increasing the number of federal officers who are aggressively rounding up illegals (aka, criminals), and this will not stop. This will break up a lot of families and hurt many people, legal or illegal, and there is nobody to blame but Brown and his gang of lying elites for the consequences that will, like a chicken, come home to roost. Just days ago, a silly Communist liberal whined that she thinks that prosecuting criminals is a gross violation of the constitution. Hunh?

President Trump is not a fool, and is not one to mess with. After a life in the construction and development industry in New York, Donald Trump cut his teeth dealing with gangsters, union bosses, corrupt politicians, thieves of every nature, pimps and whores, hustlers, shysters and every other type of slime known to mankind. Gerry Brown fits neatly into any one of these categories. These creeps are losers, Jerry Brown will find himself  on the losing side. President Trump is a practiced, accomplished winner.

Sixty years ago, California High School graduates were among the best educated people on earth. Now, many given an exit pass from the halls of education are often barely able to tie their shoe laces. This is a direct result of extremely liberal governance, Democratic leadership. This is a crying shame – a wicked crime being visited on humanity and civilization. Those 1960 high school graduates were better educated in the three R’s, sciences, and technology than current university dolts. Good, competent teachers face retribution while bad, really bad teachers and administrators are rewarded. It is essential that this be reversed.

Will President Trump apply lessons learned from Obama and sic the IRS on crooked politicians and others in California? The President has the authority to make command decisions of this nature. Stand-by!

President Trump is destined to do the right things because California elites won’t. We will see increased oil and gas production both onshore and off coast no matter how much carbon emitting gaseous whining the Cal EPA and related fools emit.

President Trump can apply various elements of government to either provide or restrict monies for investments in California, to help business who are being driven out of California to begin anew elsewhere. This writer has personal and professional friends and associates who have bailed from California, taking billions of dollars with them and firing hundreds of formerly well-paid employees. This, thanks to the willfully ignorant and very evil, crooked Sacramento cretins.

Gun control: Government should fear an armed citizenry. Citizens should not live in fear of tyrannical government. California has some of the most egregiously bad gun and ammunition laws in existence. Why? The Brown cabal knows, as did the Nazis, and Communists know that an unarmed people can be controlled and made to fear government. Our fabulous Constitution and awesome Second Amendment affirm that the government should respect the people, and an armed citizenry are to be feared. These Brown thugs have no idea how innovative angry citizens can be, and guns are being smuggled into the state from all over. California’s stupid laws regarding ammunition purchases will be thwarted. Guns and ammunition will soon be more abundant than before, guaranteed.

The Sacramento elites have worked hard to destroy one of California’s greatest industries: Agriculture. Their actions have driven food prices higher, caused scarcities, and bankrupted thousands of wonderful people. Fishing is another industry being destroyed by eliminating spawning grounds and corrupting waterways.

On January 20, 2017, President Donald J. Trump swore a sacred oath to protect and defend the Constitution from all enemies both foreign and domestic. President Trump is doing a magnificent job, and there are millions of us who have sworn that same sacred oath who will protect and defend both our President along with our Constitutional form of government.

Kate Steinle: The New Face of Political Incorrectness

    Gary Fouse

    Hat tip The College Fix

Kate Steinle, the young woman  killed by a criminal illegal alien in San Francisco (He was astonishingly acquitted), is becoming the face of politically incorrect thought on college campuses. The most recent is UC San Diego, where the Bias Response Team (academia's version of SWAT) removed posters of Kate with the heading, "She had dreams too". A member of the campus College Republicans has been "ordered to appear" for the "crime".

And, of course, at UC Berkeley, the vigilantes didn't even wait for the Bias Response Team. They trashed similar posters put up by the College Republicans.

One wonders what other victims who had dreams would offend the leftist rascals on our campuses these days.
