Some went home - Some went homeless

Remarks of President Barack Obama – Weekly Address – The White House – January 4, 2014

Hi, everybody, and Happy New Year.

This is a time when we look ahead to all the possibilities and opportunities of the year to come – when we resolve to better ourselves, and to better our relationships with one another. And today, I want to talk about one place that Washington should start – a place where we can make a real and powerful difference in the lives of many of our fellow Americans right now.

Just a few days after Christmas, more than one million of our fellow Americans lost a vital economic lifeline – the temporary insurance that helps folks make ends meet while they look for a job. Republicans in Congress went home for the holidays and let that lifeline expire. And for many of their constituents who are unemployed through no fault of their own, that decision will leave them with no income at all.

We make this promise to one another because it makes a difference to a mother who needs help feeding her kids while she’s looking for work; to a father who needs help paying the rent while learning the skills to get a new and better job. And denying families that security is just plain cruel. We’re a better country than that. We don’t abandon our fellow Americans when times get tough – we keep the faith with them until they start that new job.

Did someone forget to inform the President of the United States that Democrats went home for the Christmas/New Year holidays? If I remember correctly the Senate passed NDAA 2014 on Friday, December 20th and then everyone, Republicans and Democrats alike, bailed on Washington and America. And, if I remember correctly, on December 20th Hussein Obama and family hopped on Air Force One and went to Hawaii for sixteen days.

So much for “We don’t abandon our fellow Americans when times get tough.” The pattern seems to be to either go to bed, or just go on a vacation.

If “denying families that security is just plain cruel” it would look much more like a sincere statement had all of the Republicans, and Democrats, and the President stayed until an agreement was reached on that “lifeline.”

No, cruel is the so-called leader of this nation who takes a sixteen day vacation while back on the mainland there are 600,000 plus homeless in the dead of winter.

The HUD 2013 Annual Homeless Assessment Report (AHAR) to Congress

More than 600,000 Americans are homeless on a given night, according to the latest government data, which conducts a count on a specific night in January every year. Nearly a quarter are children and a third were living in unsheltered places like parks, cars, or abandoned buildings.

The number of people who are chronically homeless, or who have been continuously homeless for more than one year or experienced at least four episodes over the last three, is over 100,000, and two-thirds go unsheltered. There were more than 57,000 homeless veterans.

I've worked since before I left school and I've never been able to afford a 16 day vacation in my life.

Me either Nick. 16 days. Sounds like a dream. Helps if someone else is paying for a good portion of it don't it?!?

BENGHAZI!!!!!!

How many homeless could have been helped a bit with the money wasted on the POS and his lavish vacations?

Bush went to Crawford, Texas and Camp David. This gay mulatto mussie traitor needs to be removed and the way does not matter.

My 'vacation' the only one is years was blessed trip to the bay area and Central valley where best and lifelong friends made it possible.

I have worked since I was 11 and would not change it for the world.
It may quite possibly have taken years off me life but I have known true freedom, sat alone on ridges and mountains that were almost 13,000' high where I could see almost to Mexico and into three other states.

Obama does not have a clue what real freedom and work is. He loves off other people's money.

He and his ilk have a nice warm seat reserved next to FDR, Hitler, Stalin, Mandela etc. in hell
